This week, I was pleased to attend the Medical Research Council (MRC) Millennium Medal Science Showcase in Parliament.

I was already aware of the very impressive work of the MRC Weatherall Institute of Molecular Medicine. It was really good to hear about so many other projects in the city which are also funded by the MRC. One of these is the Dementias Platform, which is led by Oxford. This exciting initiative brings together different research teams and sets of findings so that we can make the very most of research resources in this area- including a huge – anonymised and secure, of course- database of the clinical conditions of thousands of people with dementia.

It was great to find out from a Littlemore-based scientist about her hopes for future treatments for dementia which might some day be developed because of work being done today as part of the Platform.
