Last weekend as part of Small Business Saturday Anneliese toured some of Oxford’s best small businesses including Cafe Bonjour, Nash’s Bakery, Cricket and Shelley Road Shop, Beeline Bikes, Deli-Licious, Akiport Portuguese cafe and The Garden of Oxford.

Small Business Saturday is a grass-roots, non-commercial campaign, which highlights small business success and encourages consumers to ‘shop local’ and support small businesses in their communities.

The day itself is an annual event occurring every first Saturday in December each year. In 2016 customers spend £717m with small businesses on Small Business Saturday, an increase of 15% on 2015 spending. Over 140,000 tweets were sent reaching over 130 million people trending in the UK and abroad.

However, the campaign itself isn’t about the one Saturday in December, it’s about creating a lasting impact on small businesses up and down the country.

Anneliese said on Saturday; “small businesses play such an essential role in our communities, we should all try to shop local and support our small businesses, especially at this time of year with Christmas around the corner”. Anneliese added, “I enjoyed the day visiting some of my favourite small businesses as well as some new”.
