Local residents have until this Friday 30 May to feed their views into the planning consultation on a new stadium for Oxford United FC. The club’s planning application for a new stadium at the Kidlington Triangle, just north of Oxford, will be considered by Cherwell District Council shortly afterwards.
Labour MP for Oxford East, Anneliese Dodds said: “I wholeheartedly support the club’s plans, as does the rest of the Labour Party here in Oxford. The current stadium in Blackbird Leys is not up to standard. It lacks a fourth stand, the club is being charged unviable rent, and there are many other problems. I would urge all local representatives at all levels to get behind the Yellows and support the club’s proposals.”
The new 16,000 capacity stadium would create around 1,000 jobs and add £32 million a year to our local economy according to the club. It would also be the first all-electric stadium in the UK. OUFC has produced a fully-costed net zero carbon plan, and the new stadium would be built near great public transport links.
Anneliese Dodds MP has spoken up for OUFC in Parliament, on social media, and in the news on numerous occasions. She added: “The loss of a stadium would be a huge hit to our football club – I will keep fighting for the new stadium to be built.”
